A
crying need of the age
School children are encouraged to memorize raw facts, without knowing how to apply them. Practical, Project, Programming : everything is just to maintain formality, actual objectives never become fruitful. Our attention is diverted from life-oriented education, which makes insight, inner power for critical thinking, analytical ability, problem solving skill to face the challenge confidently.
As a result, we are lagging behind. Technology develops, but science stopped. We are unable to see things from different angle to crack the problem, to overcome the crisis.
Educational
reform is the answer. Curriculum, environment and teaching methodology should be
framed on the basis of development of brain cells of the child in different age
group. Activity, science experiments must be meaningful to learners to develop own
ideas and creativity, and not a routine task or child’s play. Lack of awareness
among guardians is a key factor of failure. A parallel education system is also
needed to develop vocational, cultural and technological skill. And another one
for backward class, first generation learner or mentally retarded children.

Primary Scholarship Exam
Primary Scholarship Exam
Before 1977, Bengal Government used to organize Primary Final (Scholarship) Exam for the learners of Standard IV. Now it’s passé. Learners follow different syllabi of different Boards in English, Bengali and Hindi medium. Method of evaluation also differs. Schools also conduct exams in their own ways. There is no standard evaluation system at all. What’s more, countless Talent Search Tests are held here and there, but to determine the level of efficiency concerned so far, compared to others, the strength of foundation of learning, the precision of methodology to achieve target, there is no consistency among them.
Finally School Education Development Mission (SEDM) has been formed with devoted
educationists, who will restlessly endeavor and research for the total
upgradation of the process of learning. Imparting the basic concepts of
English, Math and Science to the learners in a joyful way has been emphasized.
Not only the meritorious, but for all learners of Standard IV, the Primary
Final Exam throughout the state in English, Math & Science-Geography, based
on the combined syllabus of CBSE, ICSE and State Govt Boards are conducted
in the month of September, result within December and Prize Distribution Programme in March.
